On Tuesday, January 19th, the Victoria County Navigation District, which owns and operates the Port of Victoria, will consider approval of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Victoria County, the City of Victoria, the Victoria Sales Tax Development Corporation, and the Victoria Regional Airport with the goal of stimulating industry and commerce in Victoria County.
The U.S. Federal Tax Cut and Jobs Act resulted in the creation of Opportunity Zones in 2017. Investments made in the development of property in certified zones may be eligible for preferential tax treatment under certain conditions. Seven census tracts are designated as Qualified Opportunity Zones (QOZ) in Victoria County, Texas. These certified tracts include:
